Job Summary
The Director of School Support & Service role is an integral part of the School Support and Service team is responsible for the management and development of six members of the KIPP DC School Support and Service team and works closely with the instructional leadership and recruitment team to support schools with the execution of matters related to compliance and re- enrollment across all KIPP DC schools. The starting salary range for this role is [starting salary range]. This is a full time, occasional flexibility role based at headquarters with an anticipated immediate start date.

About the RoleThe Director of School Support and Service is a leadership team member on the School Support and Service Team. The Director is responsible for the management and development of six members of the KIPP DC School Support and Service team and works closely with the instructional leadership and recruitment team to support schools with the execution of matters related to compliance across all KIPP DC schools. As a leadership team member, they will partner closely with other regional teams namely recruitment and the academic team to coordinate compliance efforts and communicate updates on behalf of the team. As a Director, this position must also ensure adherence to established internal control policies and procedures and maintain compliance within the organization.
Location and Type of Work
This is an exempt position and will report to the Managing Director of School Support & Service. As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. Schools operate in person and our students and families rely on us for in-person support, and this position will regularly provide on-site support to school teams, frequently partner with other headquarters teams, or regularly work in multiple locations. Because of the nature of the work, this role allows for occasional flexibility and will be required to be onsite 4 days per week.
Responsibilities
The percentages for each key responsibility are estimates, and other duties may be assigned. Flexibility and responsiveness are encouraged to accommodate organizational needs.
People Management (40% of the time)
Management and development of six members of the KIPP DC School Support and Service team
- Onboarding team members to the role and organization
- Ongoing support of individual growth and development through coaching support for all team members including observation, feedback and performance review processes
- Leading and hosting professional development and regular team meetings to align team members and introduce cross sector work and updates
- Support and guide Compliance Manager relationships with school leaders and families as needed
- Hire, train and manage summer school employees to support re - enrollment efforts
- Develop, train and support the cohort of 21 office managers in coordination with the instructional leadership team.
- Collaborate with the Managing Director, health team and other compliance team leaders, on team initiatives, including revising policies and protocols that impact the compliance team workstream and ensuring all campuses are in compliance with enrollment, health and various other named requirements
- Represent compliance work stream and collaborate with, other functional leaders and teams, particularly the student information team, data, communication and academic teams and school leaders
- Maintain ongoing quality control of documentation for enrollment, immunization and health purposes to ensure efficacy to Office of the State Superintendent of Education’s requirements
- Communicate organizational, compliance and audit updates and next steps with managers so that they can incorporate it into their work, for example, Office of the State Superintendent of Education policy updates that will be important for school leaders or families to understand
- Lead by example to create and reinforce positive and productive team culture including supporting and covering team members and a regular school visit schedule – and to center students and families in these processes
- Develop and execute an annual strategic plan to increase student re-enrollment rates, with a focus on improving retention metrics and minimizing attrition.
- Collaborate with school administrators, faculty, and staff to utilize data and market research to identify barriers to re-enrollment and implement solutions to address them effectively.
- Lead cross - functional team collaboration with recruitment and instructional leadership teams to develop targeted communication strategies and marketing campaigns to engage current students and families and encourage their continued enrollment.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with families, community organizations, and other stakeholders to promote enrollment and retention efforts.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of re-enrollment strategies and initiatives, adjusting approaches as needed to achieve desired outcomes.
- Provide regular reports and updates to senior leadership on progress towards re-enrollment goals, key performance indicators, and relevant market trends.
Requirements & Preferences
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required
- At least 7 years of compliance related experience required
- At least 7 years of experience working with families in schools required
- At least 5 years of people management experience with evidence of development and coaching responsibilities required
- Ability to laterally manage, motivate and build relationships with stakeholders with a broad range of skill and experience levels.
- Documented ability to design and manage complex projects with competing timelines with extraordinary attention to detail
- Flexibility, tenacity, ability to produce high-quality work, resourcefulness, and willingness to work well with a team
- Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP DC’s mission and to advancing its anti-racist ambition through their work with staff, students, alumni, and families
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Mastery of Google Suite, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and the ability to quickly adapt to new technologies
- Experience with PowerSchool, DeansList
- Strong communication skills with the demonstrated ability to solve complex customer service problems

- Flexibility to work outside normal business hours or weekends as necessary
