Job Summary

The Campus Director of Operations role is an integral part of the Information & Operations team, ensuring all campus operations run seamlessly each and every day. The starting salary range for this role is $86,280-$93,782. This is a full-time, fully on-site role based at a campus with an anticipated start date of Mid-July 2025.

About the Role
In partnership with the school leader, Assistant Principal of Operations, and KIPP DC headquarters staff, the Campus Director of Operations develops the campus-wide operations vision. This role ensures that all campus operations run seamlessly each and every day, proactively problem-solving and developing systems where needed.

Location and Type of Work
This is an exempt position and will report to the Assistant Principal of Operations (APO). As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. Schools operate in person and our students and families rely on us for in-person support which requires this position to be fully onsite. This role is currently required to be onsite or in schools during regular work hours.

Responsibilities

School Operations Leadership & Team Management (30% of time)

  • In partnership with the APO, develops the campus-wide operations vision that supports and operationalizes the academic and cultural vision of the campus in partnership with the school leaders and KIPP DC headquarters staff
  • Plays a leadership role in the school’s strategic and annual planning process
  • Serves as the secondary point of contact for KIPP DC’s headquarters staff, responding to requests and collaborating with teammates across the region to build scalable, region-wide systems, policies, and procedures
  • Manages, coaches, and develops school operations team members and holds them accountable to goals and outcomes

School-wide Systems (25% of time)

  • Serves as the eyes and ears of the school to ensure that all school operations run seamlessly every day, proactively problem-solving and developing systems where needed
  • Oversees all aspects of food service, including quality, managing staff/vendors, meal tracking, compliance, and meal delivery
  • Owns internal operations communications to staff via weekly staff newsletter and external communication to school and community partners
  • Owns all logistics (e.g. transportation, lodging, meals, staffing plan, etc.) of all off-site field trips and all on-site special events (performances, graduation, staff celebrations, etc.)

Finance & Purchasing (20% of time)

  • Works closely with the APO and school leader to actively manage the school budget throughout the year
  • Manages the school purchasing process by establishing clear systems for staff to request items, placing orders with vendors, tracking delivery, and coding and submitting purchase orders, invoices, and reimbursement requests; approves school purchases under a specific financial threshold
  • Leads the school opening/start-up process each year to ensure that doors are ready to open by ordering furniture, equipment, and instructional supplies
  • Serves as the first school-based point of contact regarding finance and works with regional Finance teams to ensure financial compliance and reporting.

Safety (10% of time)

  • Support the School Operations team in ensuring that the school is prepared for emergencies by supporting all drills 
  • Supports student arrival and dismissal, including developing and implementing expectations, procedures, and posts for the Operations team and safety-related staff
  • Supports schoolwide safety and security procedures and operations alongside the APO and Manager of Safety Operations

Facilities & Maintenance (10% of time)

  • Oversees most facility issues, including maintenance, managing staff/vendors, aesthetics, shared space agreements, and campus safety
  • Regularly conducts facilities walkthroughs and liaises with custodial staff/vendors/regional Facilities team to ensure that the facility looks the best it can

Requirements & Preferences

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of work experience
  • Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Powerpoint and Microsoft Excel
  • Proven project management skills as it relates to the creation of different systems and structures
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • 2 years of previous management experience
  • Previous experience in K-12 education setting and/or business or operations management

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel to a KIPP DC school
  • Flexibility to work outside of regular business hours or weekends

KIPP DC offers an extremely competitive compensation and benefits package:

  • The anticipated starting salary range for this position is $86,280-$93,782. At KIPP DC we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. When determining salaries we look at benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector.  
  • KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and a membership to One Medical.
  • KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years.
  • Currently, individuals in this role have up to 15 paid time off days, up to 10 paid sick days, 12 paid holidays, and paid Thanksgiving week break, and winter break. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter.
