The Senior Manager of Employee Relations is an integral part of the Talent team, supporting a wide range of employee relations functions. The starting salary range for this role is $86,280-$93,782. This is a full-time, hybrid role based in Washington, DC with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025.

About the RoleThe Senior Manager of Employee Relations serves as a key partner in fostering a positive and compliant work environment by ensuring fair and consistent treatment of employees. This role focuses on addressing workplace concerns, investigating allegations of misconduct—including harassment, discrimination, workplace violence, and policy violations—and ensuring adherence to KIPP DC policies and employment laws. Working closely with the Human Resources team, the Senior Manager of Employee Relations plays a vital role in resolving workplace issues, promoting equity, and strengthening relationships between employees and the organization. culture, and conflict resolution strategies.Location and Type of WorkThis is an exempt position and will report to the Director of Employee Relations. Headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. This position will generally work independently and not regularly interface with students, families, or school teams. This position will primarily work from our headquarters office to maintain a connection to their colleagues and foster a sense of cross-functional collaboration. Because of the nature of this position’s work, this will allow for hybrid flexibility. This role will have approximately 50% flexibility to work remotely. ResponsibilitiesEmployee Relations (75% of the time) - Investigate and resolve workplace concerns, including employee conduct issues, harassment, discrimination, and policy violations.
- Advise and support managers on personnel matters, including performance concerns, disciplinary actions, and ADA accommodations.
- Mediate workplace disputes and navigate difficult conversations to promote a fair and productive work environment.
- Develop and implement training on staff policies, employee relations best practices, and compliance requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and collaborate with school staff, HR, and leadership to ensure consistent and transparent employee relations practices.
Strategic Human Resources Partner (25% of the time) - Serve as point of contact for an identified major HR priority for the entire organization, such as general coverage (substitutes, internal coverage) or compliance (I-9, SSOAA, etc)
- Manage the success of the applicable identified major HR priority by ensuring any applicable stakeholder engagement, budget management, and/or project management
- Develops and maintains strong relationships with school leaders, recruitment and other cross functional teams
- Manage employee changes in Workday, KIPP DC’s Human Resources Information System (HRIS)
- Ensure KIPP DC’s HR policies and procedures comply with Federal and DC laws and encompass HR best practices; provide input to those policies to ensure they are properly documented, updated and communicated as necessary
Requirements & PreferencesRequired Qualifications
- Current Member of the KIPP DC HR team
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in employee relations, policy management, or HR compliance.
- Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations.
- Experience working collaboratively with stakeholders throughout the organization
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to navigate complex employee relations issues with professionalism and discretion.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
Preferred Qualifications
- PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification.
- Experience working in an educational or nonprofit environment.
- Experience in K-12 and/or non-profit sector
- Familiarity with HR systems such as Workday.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace
