Job Summary

The High School Transition Manager & Recruiter role is an integral part of the School Support & Service team, working closely with middle school principals, high school principals, the school support & service team, and most importantly, students and families, to promote the benefits of attending a KIPP DC high school. The starting salary range for this role is $86,280-$93,782. This is a full-time, occasional flexibility role based at headquarters with an anticipated immediate start date.

About the Role
The High School Transition Manage & Recruiter will work closely with middle school principals, high school principals, the school support & service team, and most importantly, students and families, to promote the benefits of attending a KIPP DC high school. They will provide direct guidance and support to nearly 500 8th grade families and hundreds of middle school students in younger grades, helping them understand the high school application process, particularly the My School DC lottery process and KIPP DC’s enrollment feeder pattern.

Location and Type of Work

This is an exempt position and will report to the Director of Student Recruitment. As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. Schools operate in person and our students and families rely on us for in-person support, and this position will regularly provide on-site support to school teams, frequently partner with other headquarters teams, or regularly work in multiple locations. Because of the nature of the work, this role allows for occasional flexibility and will be required to be onsite 4 days per week (3 days at schools or within the community and 1 day at KIPP DC’s HDQ office). 


Responsibilities
The percentages for each key responsibility are estimates, and other duties may be assigned. Flexibility and responsiveness are encouraged to accommodate organizational needs.

High School Transition Support (60%)
  • Advise and support 8th-grade students and families in navigating the high school application process, including My School DC lottery.
  • Conduct outreach to families, hold office hours, and train teachers on supporting families.
  • Coordinate with school leaders to plan and execute events and programs for middle school students, families, and staff to highlight the unique offerings of KIPP DC high schools.
  • Collaborate with high school leaders to communicate the value of KIPP DC high schools to prospective families.
  • Improve retention of KIPP DC middle school students transitioning to high school.
  • Manage middle and high school recruitment chairs to execute local recruitment campaigns and transition efforts.
  • Design and facilitate lessons to help students develop skills and knowledge for a successful transition to high school.
Outreach & Marketing Project Management (20%)
  • Represent KIPP DC at community events and lead initiatives to reach prospective families.
  • Train and coordinate staff to communicate KIPP DC’s value proposition effectively.
  • Utilize social media and other channels to promote high school successes and student life.
  • Design marketing collateral and campaigns to recruit both KIPP DC and non-KIPP 8th graders.
Enrollment & New Student Support (10%)
  • Partner with the compliance team and schools to enroll new students and create a sense of community.
  • Develop strategies and experiences to support new high school families.
Team Collaboration & Reporting (10%)
  • Maintain accurate records and track the effectiveness of recruitment tactics.
  • Participate in KIPP DC headquarters activities and public relations opportunities.

Requirements & Preferences

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • At least 3  years of experience in teaching, education leadership or student recruitment OR at least 3 years advising/guiding middle or high school students through educational and career transitions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
  • Commitment to advancing KIPP DC’s anti-racist ambition through work with staff, students, alumni, and families.
  • Passion for education reform and commitment to KIPP DC’s mission.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel between campuses and attend evening and weekend events.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting student recruitment through targeted outreach and engagement.
  • Familiarity with My School DC 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite; experience with applicant tracking databases or student information systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and drive change in a fast-paced environment.

  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours or weekends as necessary and represent KIPP DC at community events

Benefits & Compensation

KIPP DC offers an extremely competitive compensation and benefits package:

  • The anticipated starting salary range for this position is $86,280-$93,782. At KIPP DC we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. When determining salaries we look at benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector.  
  • KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and a membership to One Medical.
  • KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years.
  • Currently, individuals in this role have up to 15 paid time off days, up to 10 paid sick days, and 12 paid holidays. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter.
