Managing Director of Student Support Compliance
(Internal only) Job Summary
The Managing Director of Student Support Compliance role is an integral part of the Student Support team who sets the vision for special education compliance across our eight campuses. The leader in this role will foster a collaborative culture of continuous improvement, coach staff, remove barriers and hold the team accountable for results. The leader believes that special education and 504 compliance is a leaver to improve student outcomes and that every student has the right to an equitable education. The starting salary range for this role is [starting salary range]. This is a full-time, in-person role based at KIPP DC's Headquarters office, with an anticipated immediate start date.

About the RoleYou will lead a team that believes special education and 504 compliance can improve student outcomes and that every student has the right to an equitable education. You’ll be responsible for ensuring and building the capacity of others at KIPP DC to follow state and federal regulations and deliver best-in-class services for students with special needs.
As a Director, this position must also ensure adherence to established internal control policies and procedures and maintain compliance within the organization. Location and Type of WorkAs a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. Schools operate in person and our students and families rely on us for in-person support which requires this position to be fully on-site. This role is currently required to be on-site or in schools during regular work hours. This is a exempt position and will report to the Senior Managing Director, Student Support. ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership and People Management (30%)
- Lead a process to set a strategic vision and set goals to meet our compliance metrics in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Chapter 30.
- Build and execute an ongoing cadence of training and development for school-based student support compliance managers and case managers
- Unite the team to identify and work through areas of improvement and innovation
- Coach and develop 3-5 direct reports who manage a sub-team of compliance managers to become effective managers and leaders
- Lead by example to create and reinforce positive and productive team culture
Compliance (60%)- Facilitate and model cross-department collaboration on audits and reporting and ensure that KIPP DC complies with all external special education annual audits and monitoring
- Reviews and updates KIPP DC’s Student Support and Related Service Provider (RSP) handbooks annually
- Oversees Independent Educational Evaluation.
- Analyze and report network-level data trends with school leaders and members of the Student Support Team (SST) to support corrective actions that need to be completed to ensure that students with IEP needs are being met by making appropriate policy recommendations, where necessary.
- Collaborate and serve as a student support expert with the legal team on due process complaints.
- Develop and execute a plan to train all KIPP DC related service providers, teachers, and staff on the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) database for special education and oversee OSSE progress monitoring activities and report.
- Oversee Child Count compliance for students with individualized education plans
- Ensure that KIPP DC meets its Local Educational Agency (LEA) obligation for Non-Public Placement (NPP)
- Collaborate with OSSE Department of Transportation to ensure school calendars are current for student routing
- Facilitate small group and whole staff professional development on an as-needed basis
Medicaid (10%)- Collaborate with KIPP DC finance team and external auditors and consultants to execute KIPP DC’s annual Medicaid billing cycle amounting to nearly $2mm in federal reimbursements each year
- Serve as the Medicaid PERM (Payment Error Rate Measurement) point of contact for Medicaid Audits
- Ensure related service delivery for 100% of services are accurately reflected in special programs
Requirements & PreferencesRequired Qualifications
- Current member of the KIPP DC team
- Master’s degree in education or special education OR a Bachelor’s degree and certified in special education
- Minimum of 3 years experience as a special education teacher
- Minimum of 2 years as a district-level special education support staff
- Experience with successfully navigating district and/or state student information systems for IEP management
- Extensive experience managing special education teams and processes
- Strong understanding of state and federal Special Education laws and local policies, with experience leading complex meetings (e.g., with attorneys and advocates)
- Commitment to working with limited access to quality educational options
- Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills
- Flexibility, tenacity, ability to produce high-quality work, resourcefulness, and willingness to work well with a team
- Outstanding organizational skills and extraordinary attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing through multiple leadership layers/teams.

- Ability to travel across KIPP DC schools and HDQ
- Prolonged periods of sedentary work

Benefits & CompensationKIPP DC offers an extremely competitive compensation and benefits package:
- The anticipated starting salary range for this position is $137,746-$152,245. At KIPP DC we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. When determining salaries we look at benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector.
- KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and a membership to One Medical.
- KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years.
- Currently, individuals in this role have up to 15 paid time off days, up to 10 paid sick days, and 12 paid holidays. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter.
