Job Summary
The School Health and Compliance Intern role is an integral part of the Operations/Health Team, ensuring KIPP DC students are compliant with required school health regulations. This is a fully on-site  role based at KIPP DC campuses and Headquarters with an anticipated start date of June 2, 2025.

About the team
The Health Team is a small but mighty group dedicated to ensuring that all families in Washington, D.C. have access to high-quality school health services. We are passionate about providing excellent customer service to families and supporting them with daily health operations and processes. The team is collaborative, close knit, and prioritizes ensuring all students and families have a red-carpet customer experience the entire year.

About the Role
The School Health Intern will have the opportunity to learn about KIPP health process from start to finish. They will work closely with health suite staff and Compliance Managers to support health projects. The intern will have a peek into the experience of what it takes to be part of a child’s village on their education journey. It is perfect for the detail-oriented person who wants to contribute to the behind the scenes work of what it takes to get schools fully compliant, healthy, and ready for children to learn. This is a non-exempt position and will report to the Associate Director of Health and Compliance.

Location and Type of Work
As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. Schools operate in person and our students and families rely on us for in-person support which requires this position to be fully on-site. This role is currently required to be on-site or in schools during regular work hours.

Responsibilities
  • Immunization Compliance (40%)
    • Analyze vaccinations records for clarity and accuracy
    • Upload new records to the online PowerSchool system
    • Outreach to immunization-non-compliant student families using text/call templates
    • Document outreach in IZ Tracker
  • Health Records Analysis (30%)
    • Work with health suite staff and Compliance Manager to identify expired or incomplete medical action plans (MAPs)
    • Outreach to non-compliant families using text/call templates
    • Document outreach in Student Medication Tracker
    • Update Student Medication Tracker as needed
    • Analyze and upload Universal Health Certificates to online portal
  • Outreach & Communications (25%)
    • Outreach to non-compliant families using text/call templates
    • Document outreach in health trackers
    • Post fliers around campuses
  • Health & Wellness Events (5%)
    • Assist with setup and breakdown, 
    • health form documentation

Requirements & Preferences

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma and/or GED Equivalent 
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program 
  • 2 years of health, project management, customer service, and data entry experience 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds
  • Ability to stand frequently 
  • Ability to travel across KIPP DC schools and throughout Washington, DC.

Benefits & Compensation

The KIPP DC summer internship program offers a competitive hourly wage of $17.50, allowing you to gain valuable experience while earning a decent income. Interns are eligible to work up to 30 hours per week, providing flexibility to balance your work and personal life. 

Please note that the program will follow the KIPP DC HDQ holiday calendar which includes two unpaid holidays: Juneteenth (June 19-June 20th) and the 4th of July, giving you time to celebrate and recharge.
