Job Summary
The Benefits and Compensation Intern will play an integral role in supporting the HR team with the essential administration of benefits, leave, and compensation programs. This summer internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience by assisting with open enrollment, new hire onboarding and orientation, and various day-to-day administrative tasks. This is a summer intern role that runs for 9 weeks (June 1, 2026 - July 31, 2026), based on KIPP DC campuses with an anticipated start date of June 1st, 2026.

About the TeamThe Benefits and Compensation team is dedicated to supporting KIPP DC and its employees by designing and administering benefits, leave, and compensation. Our team also provides guidance and resolves questions.
About the Role
In this summer internship, you’ll support the Benefits and Compensation team with benefits, leave, and compensation administration. The summer provides opportunity to support with open enrollment, new hire onboarding and orientation, and day-to-day administrative tasks.This is a Non-exempt position and will report to the Director of Benefits and Compensation.
Location and Type of Work
As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. This position will generally work independently and not regularly interface with students, families, or school teams. This position will primarily work from our headquarters office to maintain a connection to their colleagues and foster a sense of cross-functional collaboration. Because of the nature of this position’s work, this will allow for hybrid flexibility. This role will have approximately 50% flexibility to work remotely.
Responsibilities
Attendance Systems & Monitoring (25%)
- System Development: Design and implement systems to help school teams record accurate daily attendance and track student tardiness.
- Data Management: Enter attendance for tardy students and perform building "sweeps" to verify that physical attendance matches digital records
- Communication: Make daily outreach calls for absent students and report attendance trends to school and regional leadership.
Supporting the Benefits and Compensation team (100%)
- Assist with:
- benefit priorities and initiatives for new hire onboarding
- organizing and preparing materials across different team functions
- job description management
- Complete audits and reconciliations
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED Equivalent
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program (at least 1 year completed.)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to manage short and long term projects to meet benchmarks
- Works independent with input
- Familiarity with google suite
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to travel across KIPP DC schools and throughout Washington, DC.
- Occasional flexibility to work outside normal business hours or weekends for KIPP DC events.

Benefits & Compensation
The KIPP DC summer internship program offers a competitive hourly wage of $18.00, allowing you to gain valuable experience while earning a decent income. Interns are eligible to work up to 30 hours per week, providing flexibility to balance your work and personal life.
Please note that the program will follow the KIPP DC HDQ holiday calendar which includes two unpaid holidays: Juneteenth (June 19) and the 4th of July observation (July 3), giving you time to celebrate and recharge.
