Job Summary
The Director of DevOps role is an integral part of the Information team, ensuring the DevOps team successfully develops, implements, and integrates software systems across KIPP DC. The starting salary range for this role is $137,746-$152,245. This is a full-time, occasional flexibility role based at HDQ with an anticipated immediate start date.

About the team
The DevOps team supports KIPP DC's use of data and software. The team builds integrations between software systems, consolidates data in a data warehouse, launches and configures organization-wide software platforms, and builds custom applications for key workflows. The DevOps team is a subteam of the Information team, and members collaborate closely within the Information team and across headquarters departments.
About the Role
The Director of DevOps ensures the sustainability of KIPP DC’s systems across the organization and is responsible for keeping information and access secure and synchronized across numerous platforms. Additionally, the Director of DevOps works with other KIPP DC teams to automate key processes, selecting the appropriate tools to ease the work burden.
As a Director, this position must also ensure adherence to established internal control policies and procedures and maintain compliance within the organization.
Location and Type of Work
As a headquarters team that is focused on being responsive to our schools and meeting the needs of our students and families, we approach our work in a way that reflects these priorities. Schools operate in person and our students and families rely on us for in-person support, and this position will regularly provide on-site support to school teams, frequently partner with other headquarters teams, or regularly work in multiple locations. Because of the nature of the work, this role allows for occasional flexibility. This role will have approximately 20% flexibility to work remotely. This is an exempt position and will report to the Managing Director of Technology and DevOps.
Responsibilities
Team Management - 35%
- Provides and supports professional development, feedback, and development plans for team members, including four direct reports and one indirect reports.
- Sets annual team goals, engages the team in meeting those goals, and adapts individual work to contribute to those goals
- Prioritizes and plans team workload to maximize impact on KIPP DC goals
- Ensures outstanding quality support to KIPP DC employees across team
- Oversees teams’ development of automated integrations between data systems that ensure end-users see up-to-date and accurate information
- Manages overall data warehouse and data governance strategies for KIPP DC
- Manages documentation of integration processes across KIPP DC, including both technical specifications for future maintenance/extension and shareable documentation that will allow tech support and end-users understand how data and access flows
- Implements best practices and standards for KIPP DC projects that involve custom code and programming languages (preferred technologies/platforms used, version control, etc.)
- Ensures that technical projects are well-documented and can be supported by multiple team members
- Coordinate KIPP DC’s overall adoption and use of off-the-shelf and custom software platforms.
- Acts as a technical partner for complex software used by multiple teams
- Provides technical insight to teams who are considering the acquisition of new software and advises on compatibility with existing systems and integrations
- Quickly address any potential or identified security vulnerabilities across systems
- Represents KIPP DC in vendor and consultant relationships, where applicable.
- Works with KIPP DC partner teams to automate burdensome processes. Understands the key pain points, business practices, and automation needs
- Selects the appropriate technology (low code, existing/new SaaS, custom KIPP DC software)
- Ensures partner teams have access to the appropriate documentation and training to be successful
Requirements & Preferences
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience, at least 5 years of experience managing enterprise software/reporting platforms
- Minimum 3 years of people management experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant Master’s degree preferred
- Experience in K-12 education administration
- Experience managing technical implementation and updates of SaaS platforms used throughout large organizations.
- Understanding of programming languages and software engineering best practices

- The anticipated starting salary range for this position is $137,746-$152,245. At KIPP DC we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. When determining salaries we look at benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector.
- KIPP DC offers a robust benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurances; various voluntary benefits; and employer paid benefits such as short term disability, long term disability, life insurance, and a membership to One Medical.
- KIPP DC also offers a 403(b) retirement account with a 3% employer contribution and a 3% match with vesting after three years.
- Currently, individuals in this role have up to 15 paid time off days, up to 10 paid sick days, and 12 paid holidays. This is subject to change and your exact schedule will be shared in your offer letter.
